New ADL report finds deeply troubling results

New antisemitism report. In a new report published by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), they found that 85% of the American public believes in at least one anti-Jewish trope. This was an increase from 61% in 2019. Furthermore, they found that 70% of Americans believe that Jews stick together more than other Americans and that 53% agreed with the statement that Jews in business go out of their way to hire other Jews.
Holocaust reversal. The ADL also found that 40% of Americans slightly believe Israel treats Palestinians like Nazis treated the Jews. This is, of course, a textbook-style antisemitic belief called Holocaust reversal where Jews, the victims of the Holocaust, are made into the real perpetrators.

History is clear. Holocaust reversal is even more absurd considering that during WWII, the leader of the Arabs under the British Mandate of Palestine, Eretz Yisrael, was Haj Amin al-Husseini, a personal friend and ally of the Third Reich. Hitler and Husseini collaborated on a plan to extend the Final Solution to the British Mandate. They planned to build concentration camps to exterminate the Jewish population in the British Mandate.
Overlap between anti-Israel and antisemitic beliefs. The survey also found an overlap between anti-Israel and antisemitic views. 24% said Israel and its supporters are a bad influence on our democracy. 23% said Israel can get away with anything because its supporters control the media.
In addition, on average, they found that 30% of the American public hold antisemitic views and 26% hold anti-Israel views. The researchers wanted investigate the relationship between anti-Israel and antisemitic views. They found a 0.38 correlation among the general public, a 0.28 correlation among younger people and a 0.43 correlation among older Americans.
Why this matters. The rise in antisemitic beliefs occur alongside a rise in actual antisemitic incidents. Examples of incidents include harassment, vandalism, assault, bomb threats and violence directed at Jews and Jewish institutions. Scholarly research finds that antisemitic beliefs and actions are connected. The more a population believes in antisemitic tropes, the more governments and societies are likely to actively discriminate against their Jewish populations.
The ADL conducted its survey using a representative sample of 4,000 individuals from September and October 2022.
