Helen Mirren’s Portrayal of Golda Meir is Almost Here

It’s finally coming! Golda, the new biopic of Golda Meir starring Helen Mirren in the midst of the Yom Kippur War is coming out in August 2023 according to IMDB. This is not the first time Mirren has taken on a Jewish role. She played a Mossad agent in The Debt and a Jewish refugee that takes on the Austrian government to recover her family’s artwork that was stolen by the Nazis during WWII in Woman in Gold. Golda is written by Nicholas Martin (Florence Foster Jenkins and The Indian Doctor) and directed by Guy Nattiv (Magic Men and The Flood).

The cast. Liev Schreiber (Defiance, Ray Donovan, Spotlight) is going to play Henry Kissinger, the United States Secretary of State and National Security Advisor at the time. Golda will also star the famous Israeli actor Lior Ashkenazi (Traitor, Hit & Run, Valley of Tears).
Long history of Golda Meir films. There is a long history of films about Golda Meir. Perhaps the most famous one is Ingrid Bergman’s (Casablanca, Gaslight, Notorious) Emmy-winning portrayal of her in A Woman Called Golda in 1982, the final performance of her career. Colleen Dewhurst (Bed & Breakfast, Dying Young) also played her in Sword of Gideon.
