By Aaron Gold

Israel and NATO. January 26, 2023 – Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in what Stoltenberg called an ‘historic’ visit.
The two leaders discussed a range of topics from the war in Ukraine to Iran’s terrorism in the region and its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
Israel has become an important NATO partner. It has participated in multiple exercises with NATO countries including Juniper Oak 23.2 this week, the largest exercise between the United States and Israel to date. On September 1, 2021, the United States moved Israel from its European to Central Command.
NATO sees Israel as a strategic partner alongside other democracies. Stoltenberg said: “As we see growing cooperation among authoritarian states, it is more important than ever to stand up for freedom and democracy.”
