Season 4 of Fauda is Finally Here and it is Amazing!!

Season 4 of Fauda is here and it is amazing. Don’t worry, we won’t spoil anything! The wait is finally over. Fauda is back on Netflix (premiered on January 20, 2023) for a fourth season and trust us, if you haven’t seen it yet, you are missing out. It is incredible. Season three was in Gaza. This time around, the members of the show’s IDF counter-terrorism unit go to many new and exciting places to carry out their mission. You will not be disapointed!

Fauda is extremely popular. The show has had worldwide appeal. It was number one on Netflix in many countries, including many Arab countries. The show was even number one in Lebanon, Israel’s northern neighbor and a country that officially bans Israelis and Israeli products.

Why it matters: it humanizes the conflict. The show is not only famous for its action-packed and what feels like real-life spy scenes, but for blurring the lines between protagonist and antagonist. Throughout the show’s history, Lior Raz, the show’s co-creator along with Avi Issacharoff and main star, has often said that Fauda has become more than just a tv show. Even though Raz and Issacharoff never sought a public advocacy role for Israel, through its global success, Fauda has become a way for people to see Israel and the conflict in a new light.

“You see the Israelis as human beings, for the first time, soldiers as human beings. And and as we now showing Palestinians as human beings. So I think this is the achievement of that show. This is, I hope that it helped, and I know that it helped people to understand that there are people behind the headlines of the newspaper and you know those people have feelings, on both sides” Lior Raz said in an interview with the Khaleej Times in 2020.

Quick background. Fauda means chaos in Arabic. It follows members of Israel’s highly specialized Unit 217, also called Duvdevan (דובדבן), which is a mista’arvim (מסתערבים) or counter-terrorism unit. Mista’arvim comes from a similar Arabic word, Musta’arabi (مستعربي) that means those who live among the Arabs.

Legendary, all-star cast. Fauda stars Lior Raz (Hit & Run, 6 Underground, Operation Finale) as Doron, Itzik Cohen (The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem, Me’ila, Oslo) as Captain Gabi Eyov, Amir Boutros (Tyrant, The Crown) as Omar Tawalbe, Lucy Ayoub (Host of Eurovision 2019, Culture Club) as Maya Binyamin, Yaakov Zada-Daniel (Next to Her, Carthage, Me’ila) as Eli, Idan Amedi (a popular Israeli singer) as Sagi, Rona-Lee Shimon (Policeman, Messiah, A Quiet Heart) as Nurit, Doron Ben-David (Hostages, Dumb, Manayek) as Steve. Season Four will also star new cast members Inbar Lavi (Lucifer, Imposters, Prison Break) as Shani Russo, Mark Ivanir (Homeland, The Beauty and the Baker, The Good Sheperd), Amir Boutros (Tyrant, The Crown) as Omar Tawalbe, Loai Nofi (Hashoter Hatov, Nafas, A Gaza Weekend) as Adel Tawalbe and Lucy Ayoub (Host of Eurovision 2019, Culture Club) as Maya Binyamin.
